About two weeks ago, I got a chance to try Brainwavz M5 IEM noise isolating earphones. It was quite an experience listening to the audio quality produced by them, though I wasn't happy with the Bass output. I also mentioned in my review that Brainwavz is a company which is typically known for their Bluetooth earphones. So the company did send me another unit under the tag: Bluetooth earphones, So today we have got the Brainwavz BLU-200 Bluetooth earphones. These premium set of earphones lay under their most selling card of Brainwavz. Which without a doubt is understandable since I've been using these earphones for more than a week now. So are the Brainwavz BLU-200 Earphones perfect to suit your daily music needs Or is it suitable only for the fitness usages?. Let's find out about that in-depth in my full review of Brainwavz BLU-200 earphones.
Brainwavz BLU-200 Bluetooth Earphones Review:
- It has 9.2mm dynamic drivers inbuilt having an impedance rating of 160 Ohms.
- It has sensitivity rated at 96 DB having a frequency range of 20Hz to 20kHz.
- It supports Bluetooth 4.0 & it can be operated under 30 feet/10m range from the source.
- Apart from that, BLU-200 earphones have a 60 mAh battery which is claimed to provide 4hrs of Playtime usage. It did last long enough in my usage.
- You can connect up to two devices at the same time, and switching between them occurs automatically.
2. Design & Connectivity:
At first glance, the main unit of the BLU-200 earphones seems a bit large, but you can notice that it's due to the inbuilt battery. The color combination of deep black and green looks sexy. When you toss on those ear hooks provided inside the box, it almost gives the earphones a dynamic visual appeal. This thing with ear hooks looks like an alienistic design, which is pleasing to the eye of any viewer. These earphones have a nice flat cable which covers up the distance between your two ears with ease. If it feels loose, just tighten the secure strip attached to the wire & you're ready to go. There's also an inline mic which houses three buttons to trigger the specific set of functions. Whereas the right earphone unit also has a closed flap on the end which can be used for charging purposes.
Here are the core functions of those three buttons -
These earphones are compatible with almost every other electronic device that supports Bluetooth. The only part that a first time user(Bluetooth earphones) would worry about it the massive size of the central unit. I haven't had any issues using it, So don't worry about that size if you're interested in buying one of these. Just open the earphones, find the right pair of ear tips suitable for your ears and the earphones are secured firmly in their place. Some of us are not comfortable using the general tips that provided inside the box But don't worry Brainwavz supplies loads of inputs to throw on your BLU-200 Earphones. So the BLU-200 Earphones comes with a beautiful hard shell box & inside that box we've - Three sets of silicone ear tips, One set of Comply Foam tips S-400, Single set of ear hooks, Velcro cable tie & a Micro-USB charging cable. One of the craziest things is that all of this can easily reside in that small box itself, which makes it compact and durable for harsh conditions.
3. Ergonomics & Audio Quality-
A Simple long press on the center button turns on the Bluetooth residing on the earphones; alternatively, you can also notice a white light beeping from one end of the inline remote mic. So that's how you initially turn on the Bluetooth and connect the earphones with your smartphone. It is simple, no need to download any app or go through a set of steps. So after getting through with that, I started listening to few bass heavy tracks alongside being a metal head I also heard quite of those tracks that later on. I noticed that the audio quality was crisp, detailed and Yes, Bass was observed on the heavier side. Though the overall noise didn't felt like a total package as in some tracks, I felt that the Bass was on the lower side, whereas during few tracks I could just feel the bass instead of the audio track. But as soon as I played with the equalizers on my device, I did got the correct set of output needed. Here the sound output was clean and hassle free, but the bass was observed as on the toned down side. So to conclude, People who love bass as their primary preference are going to love these earphones. But for others, you can head over to Brainwavz M5 earphones, since they're available at a less price and do the similar job If you're looking for decent alternative lacking bass.
4. Battery life:
BLU-200 Earphones have a good battery life, high enough to provide you up to 4hrs of battery usage. Yes, it does last up to 4hrs with heavy usage as the company claims. I completed almost three episodes of Mr.Robot during my flights to Delhi and Mumbai with a single charge. It is great to see that such a small unit can provide a decent battery life.
Brainwavz BLU-200 Earphones Review: Final Thoughts.
The sturdy metal build, Bass substantial output, reliable connection, a 4hr battery life suits the job for it being called as a premium set of earphones given the price tag. It's a must buy for heavy bass users, though it tends to be on the bulky side. But considering the quality, it undoubtedly offers an upgrade to existing BLU-100 earphones. I've no issues recommending these for anyone looking to buy a decent set of earphones for Rs.3,499. Brainwavz does a great job offering a Jaybirds design alternative at a budget pricing.
- Bass heavy output.
- Inline Mic offers great value.
- Superb battery backup.
- Central units are slightly bulky.
- People who like traditional audio tracks won't be comfortable.
